Make Continuous Power a Reality

Fuel storage inside buildings follows a defined set of industry best practices. In mission-critical environments, manufacturing quality matters. From fire separation and ventilation to structural loading and integrity. We build to those standards every day, ensuring each tank reflects the site and the correct compliance pathway.

Multi-Hazard Approved to the Highest Global Standards

The fuel tank storage industry is constantly challenged with increasingly stringent fire and impact exposure requirements for above ground storage tanks. At Fuelchief (and our former company Advanced Fuel Tanks), we have collaborated for decades with the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio Texas who are a key body in performance testing above ground fuel tanks.

4-Hour fire test at 2,000°F

The first step in the multi hazard test is a 4-hour fire test in the San Antonio Texas testing facility. The kiln reaches 2,000°F to simulate a real fire.

The internal temperature of the tank did not exceed 165°F.

Multi-Hazard Testing: Hose, Projectile & Battering Ram

After the high-intensity Fire Exposure test, the tank is exposed to the cooling and erosive effects of the hose stream, ammunition projectile test, then a Heavy Vehicle Impact Test.

Final 2-Hour Fire Test

In this additional test, the tank is then given a fire rating level of 240/240/240 which is in accordance with AS1940. The additional exposure of the tank ensures that it can be re-used after an event (such as earthquake, fire, impact and the like).

Integrated Approach Remove risk at every stage

Design

Engineer the fuel system early to suit the building, generator, and compliance requirements. We resolve space, access, and fire rating upfront so the design doesn’t need rework later.

Common Questions

What is involved in commissioning a fuel tank?

Commissioning verifies that the installed tank, pipework, vents, pumps and controls operate correctly under real conditions. It confirms compliance, checks documentation and ensures the system is ready to support the generator without issue.

faq arrow
How do you coordinate tank installation with other trades?

We align installation sequencing with structural, mechanical and electrical contractors to reduce clashes and interface gaps. Clear drawings, defined responsibilities and early coordination keep site activity controlled.

faq arrow
What are common risks during fuel tank installation?

Most risks sit in the interfaces - penetrations, vent routing, slab loads, hazardous zoning and documentation sign-off. Careful planning and verification reduce friction during commissioning.

faq arrow
How do you ensure compliance during installation?

We install to approved drawings, verified specifications and applicable standards, documenting each step to support final sign-off and consent requirements.

faq arrow
Can fuel tanks be installed in live or operational environments?

Yes. Installation can be staged and coordinated to minimise disruption, particularly in hospitals, data centres and infrastructure facilities where uptime matters.

faq arrow
What documentation is required at installation completion?

As-built drawings, compliance certifications, fire-rating documentation and commissioning records are typically required before the system is signed off.
